On behalf of Shining Starr Learning Academy, we greatly appreciate you reading about our school and our current need.

We hear about the students who graduate high school, earn scholarships, and head on to college and become successful via a traditional education. Who we do not hear much about are the students with exceptionalities who struggle with a traditional education model and need extra support or one-on-one assistance with specific subjects.

At the age of three, our daughter was diagnosed through the public school system with SLD (Specific Learning Disability). What we did not know until we had her officially diagnosed at the age of 14 was that she had processing disorder, severe dyslexia, working memory deficit, autism, and severe anxiety. We tried many schooling options, but she struggled quite a bit. We finally decided that opening our own school was an option we would try.

So, on January 9, 2017, our family took a leap of faith and opened a private school for children with exceptionalities to help our daughter and other students who were also in need of a smaller school environment. We help the students and their families. Many parents like us struggle because there are limited options for their children.

We work on core subjects, communication, teamwork, some behaviors, real-life skills and strategies, and working as a team with their parents. Our students all have gifts and are talented in their own ways. Our goal is for our students to graduate, be self-sufficient, obtain a job, or go on to college or trade school – whatever is the best fit for them.

Being small has its advantages, but with that comes fewer funds and the need for donations. We are a nonprofit 501c3 organization and are in need of some additional funding to support our school. If you are able to support us in any way, we would greatly appreciate it. We are more than happy to send you a donation letter for a tax write off.

We have a few ways to receive donations:  Zelle to shiningstarrlearningacademy@gmail.com, or use the link above for our credit card or PayPal options. On behalf of Shining Starr Learning Academy, we are forever grateful for your generous support of our school.

Sincerely,

Lisa Starr
Principal
